Don’t think for a second that if you have a small yard you don’t have options! There are still many exciting ways to do your residential landscape. See these design examples I’ve done to illustrate with even this tiny yard there are lots of choices.
Maximize Hosting Space
This design maximized the patio area to be as large as possible. The flower beds are pretty narrow in places. This yard is completely fenced. On the left side, you only have about 18″-24″ of shrub beds, this is where I choose to put in vines on a trellis, narrow and tall. To the left of the steps, you have a beautiful small focal point tree. For more focal point tree ideas click here. On the bottom, you will notice a raised planter 18″ tall making it ideal to double as seating. In the raised bed are strawberry plants which the homeowner requested (she wanted as many fruit-producing plants as possible.
Charm in Plants and Materials
Notice the square concrete tiles on the right with fake grass or ground cover growing in between. The fake grass because there is no grass in this yard and the homeowners in this community do not need to own a lawn mower. There is a raised firepit in a central location as well as a built-in bench to face it. To the right of the concrete tile, you have a raised metal planter. The planter is metal which will reduce its footprint (space-wise).
Rectangular Design
This option has a raised firepit. A custom bench, space for a table. There are lots of beautiful plants with a paver patio. There are two focal point trees. There are beautiful shrubs and plants placed in a straight row for a more formal feel. There is a raised planter behind the bench.
