Exploring the Oregon Coast is a wonderful family trip! There are so many things that the whole family will enjoy. We drove from Utah to Eugene Oregon where we spent the night. We drove to the sand dunes in Florence. The kids love running up and down the sand dunes and onto the beach. We drove north up the coast to the Sea Lion Caves. The Heceta Lighthouse is where we stopped to let the kids out to run around while Rob and I reminenced about that day 12 years ago when we got married. We stayed at the Best Western in Lincoln City (close to Depoe Bay). It was a great place to stay! The continental breakfast was wonderful! We took our time driving up the Oregon Coast stopping to see whatever interested us. We drove up to Seaside where we spent the majority of our trip, in the same hotel. I highly recommend that with kids its hard to move from one hotel to the next every night. Seaside was our homebase and we drove to various locations from there. Some of the fun family friendly things we did included seeing Yaquina Head Lighthouse, Cannon Beach, Heceta Head Lighthouse, Tillamook Rock Lighthouse, Cape Meares Lighthouse, Sea Lion Caves, Cape Disappointment Lighthouse, Whale Watching, Ecola state park tide pools, Peter Iredale Ship Wreck, Astoria, The Devils Punchbowl, Fort Canby, and Lewis & Clark Salt Works (Seaside). At Cape Disappointment one of the employees at the museum was super kind to us and went out of her way to tell us about some of the fun things to see around the area. One of the things she told us about was a beached dead whale just north of the lighthouse. We drove through an RV campsite to go see it. We were sad at the situation but amazed at the size and beauty of that beautiful creature.
Ecola State Park Tide Pools
We drove 20-30 minutes south to see the Ecola State Park tide Pools. The kids loved that! Exploring all the rocks and finding so many little ocean creatures.
